Complete stability mission

Concept

The Pairi Daiza Zoo has constructed a new enclosure with canopy for its koala bears, along with two technical buildings and a covered public walkway.

Specific features

The two technical buildings are designed as of timber frame constructions. The public walkway was built with columns and beams (rafters), inspired by the Australian origin of the koalas. The enclosure itself is covered with a mixed wood-steel-glass canopy, referring to tree crests (or crowns). The poles in gross oak here symbolize the trunks, the corten steel part resembles the branches, and the screen-printed glass makes one think of foliage.
