Bicycle bridge ‘t Groentje - 11.026

Program

Complete mission of architectural and structural design.

Concept

The footbridge Graaf Alardsingel is part of the project 'Splitsingspunt Lent'. The bridge will connect the western and eastern part of the Rijn Waalpad (a cycle route between Nijmegen en Arnhem) and facilitates the mobility around the train station Lent. The bridge will also be a pleasant connection for pedestrians crossing the Graaf Alardsingel.

Specific features

The footbridge crosses the Graaf Alardsingel with a S-shape. On the northern and southern abutment of the steel main span a natural embankment is linked to it. The steel main span across the Graaf Alardsingel is a slender en elegant structure and is a response on the massive concrete bridge for the railway station. The steel main span is an semi-integral box girder bridge with two intermediate supports (spans of 30m/60m/30m). These intermediate supports are eccentric to the upper bridge deck. The railing of the bridge refers to long grasses and is equipped with integrated led-lighting.
