Concept
Mixed-use appartment and retail building in the city centre of Antwerp
Specific features
The new building contains undergound floors up to a depth of 7m. For this reason, the neighbouring buildings had to be underpinned. Different foundation techniques were used, such as soilmix piles, soilmix walls and underpinning concrete walls. The groundfloor is constructed with doubled-up walls to accomodate a bank, as well as for increased loading due to the presence of a strongroom and cash dispensers. The façade showcases white precast concrete panels which are used as load bearing walls.
