Waterloo Canopies - 09.022

Program

Study of the steel strcuture of the two Canopies

Concept

The Waterloo station is a stop on the new 124 line of the future RER network . This RER network requires four railway tracks, instead of the current double tracks. Which has as a consequence the necessary upgrade of several suburban train stations. On the Waterloo site, the project designed by Eurogare, foresees the construction of a series of canopies each 150 m long. Those fulfill different functions: shelter the waiting travellers as well as the stairs and ramps for pedestrians and emphasize the station site. This last aspect is strengthen by lifting the central part of the structure

Specific features

The canopies structure is designed as a box girder which directly plays the role of roof. The box girder is supported by central columns restrained at the bottom. At the lifted part, the additional moments are carried by a pair of cables.
