Concept
Construction of a new bridge near the estuary of the Demer
Specific features
Simplicity and identity represent the basic concept of the bridge.
The bridge is a single object in which all the sub aspects are integrated. The structural system consists of a single U-shaped steel section from which the bottom flange is used as the running surface, the web is used as parapet and the upper flanges are used as handrails. The cross-section of the bridge has a continuous design.
The pattern of the parapet indicates to the present Bailey bridge and copes in the mean time with the lateral forces.
The parapet has been laser cut along a pattern laid out by the acting forces on the bridge with a maximum of 100mm for the width of the openings.
These parapets are extended onto the abutments to create a uniform vision.
