St-Henri - 07.012

Program

Research on the causes of degradation of the church: tracking and measuring the structural problems, analysis, diagnosis and formulating propositions of interventions.

Concept

The church is a classified monument, built from 1908 until 1911. It's a truthful reconstruction of the church of the Dominican convent in Ghent, which was taken down in 1860. Unlike in the original church, the roofing framework was made of steel, not wood. There is no tension member in the framework.

Specific features

Since none of the original plans were found, any information on the constructive system of the church was not available. All soundings and probings necessary for the realization of the study were therefore executed (geotechnical investigation CPT 20T, drillings in the interior columns of the buttresses, foundation tests, altimetries and measuments on the perpendicular position of the façades,...).
