Metro station Sainte-Catherine - 03.009
Program
Complete study of a canopy over an underground station.
Concept
Two similar canopies cover the entry to the underground station Sainte Catherine. They offer a protection to the staircase, the lift, the ticket distributor and passengers. Each canopy consists of a fine iron plate (30m x 3.5m). This plate sits on a forest of very fine iron columns (45m) arranged in random fashion.
Specific features
In order to resolve problems of frequency, wind or vandalism, certain columns are placed at very specific locations, in order to form a rigid geometry with the roof plate frame. All the assembly details are within the depth of the roof.
Distinctions
Laureate for the Competition Steel Construction 2008 in Category C: specific construction elements.
