Program

Reference porject for works of art of the North-South connection in Campine.

Concept

The project is dividend in two parts: 1/ The redevelopment of the infrastructure Geel-West and the junction between the N19 and the E313. 2/ The construction of the N19g between Geel and Kasterlee. The Flemish Government wants to catch up its level concerning the realization of public works through a public-private partnership (DBFM-contracts). The realization of the Campine North-South junction is an element of this large-scale plan. There are in this project, from Geel to Kasterlee, in total six civil structures: the bridge over the E313, the fly-over over the new interchange, the stay wire bridge over the Albert Canal, the bridge over the Campine Canal, the viaduct over the Little Nete and the tunnel of the Hoge Mouw. Ney & Partners is responsible for the creation of the reference projects of all the civil structures, with exception of the tunnel of the Hoge Mouw. We act by order of THV Grontmij Vl. N.V. - Libost groep N.V. An essential reference project would be designed: this is a project which is reduced to its utterly essence. By using this method of designing, we were able to form a project that leaves enough space for the creativity of the future candidates within the concept of the DBFM. We can clearly describe our mission as: designing and calculating a structure and predefine it for the candidates. We tried to have continuity throughout the whole project: 1/ the civil structures have altogether the same typical section (which will be further individually developed); 2/ The users experience the bridge as a 3D-object; 3/ A simple maintenance is important: the reference projects already take this element into account; 4/ Essential designing means: making well thought-out decisions and using materials in an efficient way.
