Program

Stability study

Concept

CIT Blaton asked Sebastian Moreno and the office A2M to renovate their office building, situated on the rue Jean Jaurès in Brussels. Ney and Partners were charged with the study for the stability of 3 canopies covering the parking space behind the building. The canopies are also used as green roof constructions.

Specific features

The canopies are thin concrete shells in a “paraboloid” hyperbolic shape. The steel columns are fixed at both ends, in order to form a portal frame to withstand wind actions. The thickness of the concrete is variable such that pseudo-beams are created between the columns. Those beams are necessary to provide sufficient stiffness, needed to create an optimal shell structure. The shell thickness reduces towards the structure's center.
