Design and study of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge near Spoor Noord, Antwerp
Concept
Instead of considering the bridge as an architectural outcome to the quickly evolving Noord neighborhood, it is conceived as a physically independent object. Its structure is based on a tube, evolved and optimized such that it only "rests" on two points, touching its environment lightly. The second act of optimizing form are the steel skin transformations : where possible material is removed, where needed added or deformed, and each of these acts is treated as an architectonic gesture, layering the possible interpretations of the bridge.
