Complete study of the building structure
Concept
Extension of the cultural centre deSingel and of the Hoge School Antwerpen (music conservatorium) at Antwerpen.
The project is divided in two parts: the Hoogbouw, a “flat” tower including two concert halls and several rehearsal and theatre rooms, and the Laagbouw which contains a large multi-purposes hall (podium kunst werkplaats) as well as an exhibition room, a restaurant/cafeteria and administrative and technical rooms, etc…
The Hoogbouw rests on 8 columns made of reinforced concrete and is located partially above the Laagbouw. It cantilevers 14m over the existing buildings. Concrete truss walls in reinforced concrete are used support the cantilever. The architecture of the façades allows straightforward reading of the structure and its behaviour.
The buildings are mainly designed in reinforced concrete.
