Thuin Bridge - 02.047

Program

Part of an architectural association. Complete study of the bridge and its foundations.

Concept

This project replaces an existing steel bridge (from 1925) with a 43 m span bridge. The construction is mixed: the bridge must allow the passage of the RAVeL above the river Sambre as well as the passing of a touristic tram of the 'Vicinal network'.

Specific features

The bridge consists of a closed trapezoidal profile stressed by tension elements arranged according to a Fink beam. the circulation lands are arranged on each side of the closed profile at 2 different heights. The total width of this bridge is 7.75m (including the handrail). The deck is wooden. The initial bridge's foundations are kept. Another particularity is the presence of the new steel bridge of the SNCB next to the bridge.
