News / Renewal of square Schuman, Brussels (B) - (11/01/2012)

The Team XDG Architects and NEY+Partners win the competition for the renewal of square Schuman in Brussels (B).

The Schuman Circle punctuates one of the most important axes of the city from the point of view of both national and European symbolism.
From the point of view of town planning, the Schuman Circle constitutes (with the Maelbeek garden) one of the only potential public space on the Loi axis before the «Cinquantenaire» park. This remains only a potential, because, as the name suggests, the circle is a road infrastructure, rather than an actual public space.
The underground rerouting of transit traffic allows transforming the former circle into the public space of the European district.
