The construction of the new low energy school “Emile Bockstael” officially begun mid-September on the site near Heysel in Brussels.
The german architects Nimptsch Architekten is collaborating with local architects Bureau Bouwtechniek as well as Ney and Partners to construct a three storey building with a timber structure. The client, the City of Brussels, stressed their engagement for sustainable architecture at the beginning of the project by tending towards a low energy building. The new school is partly subsidised by the Brussels Institute for Environmental Management and is included in the “exemplary buildings” based on the principles of eco-construction and low energy consumption.
