
Last week the winners and highly commended projects of the International Footbridge Awards 2011 were announced.
The bridge designs of Ney & Partners scored with 2 winners and 4 commended projects in the winning list of 20 international bridges. The Triennial Footbridge Awards was part of het International Conference held in Poland, Wroclaw and is organized by the British magazine Bridge Design & Engineering and www.bridgeweb.com. In the category ‘technical medium span’ the footbridge of Knokke (B) wins in ex aequo. The bridge is honoured for it’s ‘exceptional design using unstiffed structural steel plate skin – strong, durable, appropriate character and interesting technical innovation in the detailing.’ Additionally the bridge is highly commended in the category ‘aesthetics medium span’. The Stalhille (B) footbridge is winner in the category ‘technical short span’. The jury appreciated the interesting rotational movement, is charmed by the creative and simple very well thought out solution. They unusual type of movable bridge with nice touches such as safety barriers is exceptional. In the category ‘aesthetic long span’ both nominations of Ney & partners were commended: the Collegebrug in Kortrijk (B) and the Luxemburg project Esch-sur-Alzette (a collaboration with Metaform Architectes). As for the category ‘technical long span’ the Collegbrug in Kortrijk (B) was mentioned for the second time.
