Today the first of 16 elements of the new court yard roof will be mounted. The pieces are all roughly 5 by 18m, their weight varies from 8 to 16 tons per piece. The first placed piece is a 'corner piece'.
The 16 pieces were transported by truck from Antwerp to Dordrecht, and by boat from Dordrecht to Amsterdam. The pieces are mounted using a telescopic crane, on a 6 by 23m pontoon. The pieces have to be lifted over the protected museum building, over a distance of up to 71m. During montage the crane will be maximally 90m tall.
Lifting the pieces will take roughly 2 weeks. Afterwards the contractor will start welding all the pieces together.
