Ney
& Partners has won the international design competition
for covering of the Nederlands Scheepvaartsmuseum courtyard
in Amsterdam. After a first selection round with five selected structural
engineering consultancies,
Ney & Partners and Jörg Schlaich were asked to
study their design proposals in more depth.
The design of Ney is an optimised steel grid whose
geometry is based on ancient naval maps.
The structure hardly puts any loads onto the existing
building. An
integrated lighting system permits the structure to be used
as a scenographic element for the exhibition building.
